Quenching a Thirst: Libby Gets Its First Public Outdoor Water Fountain

  • Local Champion: A Libby local
  • Date Funded: March 26, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $28,835

Do you remember when you were a kid and all you needed was a quick drink of water to quench your thirst? Maybe you went to your house for a quick sip. Or, maybe, you stopped by a nearby park drinking fountain. In Libby, you couldn’t think of doing the latter. Libby does not have a single public outdoor water fountain, a problem that one local resident wanted to solve. Plans are currently underway to transform the old Libby High School into apartments and a community space. Before construction on the building begins, the co-owner of Libby Lofts LLC, the group redeveloping the old high school, wanted to turn the school’s former courtyard into a community space complete with a public water fountain. LOR’s funding helped the community redevelopment project purchase and install a freeze-proof fountain to be enjoyed for free by visitors, residents, and those kids who just need a quick drink.

This project was fiscally sponsored by Kootenai Country Montana.
