Public Drinking Foundations Provide a Healthy and Eco-Friendly Option in Taos

  • Local Champion: Town of Taos
  • Date Funded: August 13, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $29,283

Taos residents regularly enjoy time in the town’s parks—visiting playgrounds, walking dogs, playing sports, and attending concerts. However, during an event hosted in Kit Carson Park, a local 12-year-old observed to LOR staff that there were no functioning water fountains in any of the public parks, which made it challenging to stay hydrated, especially during the hot summer months.

LOR shared her concern with the Town of Taos, and a Youth & Family Center team member came forward with an idea to solve the problem: install five vandalism-proof water fountains across three of the town’s most widely used parks (Kit Carson Park, Taos Eco Park, and Fred Baca Park).

LOR’s support will fund the purchase of five ADA-compliant drinking fountains, all of which feature a bottler filler and pet foundation, as well as the traditional single fountain, to help keep active Taos residents and pets hydrated and healthy.
