Portable Nets Solve Practice Space Conflicts for Lander School Athletes

  • Local Champion: Fremont County School District #1
  • Date Funded: March 19, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $18,450

In Lander, school athletes across multiple sports need practice time and space simultaneously, but the high school stadium serves as the only turf field for soccer and the only track facility. That can be challenging logistically but also because rogue soccer balls are potential hazards. Spring weather compounds the problem by pushing teams indoors without warning, cramming even more athletes into limited gym space. When the activities director was planning spring 2026 practices, he discussed solutions with the superintendent and settled on portable netting as a cost-effective answer, then reached out to LOR with his idea. Four large portable nets will allow coaches to create safety barriers on the fly depending on team needs and weather conditions, immediately benefiting at least seven programs including middle and high school track, cross country, soccer, softball, and football. The nets can divide end zones when multiple activities share the stadium, separate practice areas to prevent balls from rolling into other teams’ spaces, and adapt to indoor or outdoor configurations as conditions require. LOR’s funding will help purchase four portable nets with shipping, allowing athletes to safely share facilities while minimizing scheduling clashes and equipment-related injuries.
