Play Structure Provides Opportunities for Healthy Interactions in Taos

  • Local Champion: Nonviolence Works, Inc
  • Date Funded: March 19, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $15,000

Taos Behavioral Health’s (TBH) after-school and summer programs allow local at-risk youth to develop and practice the emotional and social skills that support long-term success. When the organization relocated its offices, the 70+ children participating in TBH’s out-of-school programs lost access to their designated outdoor play space, limiting opportunities for physical activity, healthy social interactions among the youth, and engagement with staff. So, a staff member reached out to LOR with a solution: create an outdoor space that includes age-inclusive play structures where TBH clients can expend energy and practice social problem-solving. LOR’s funding will enable the organization to purchase a play structure that accommodates up to 29 children ages 2-12, giving Taos youth a safe space to engage in physical activity with their peers and TBH staff.
