New Uniforms Grow Track at Montezuma-Cortez Middle School

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: December 15, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,600

The track and cross country program at Montezuma-Cortez Middle School is flourishing. Three years ago, the program had 17 student-athletes. Last year, participation swelled to 45. The recent growth, while positive, has created a problem: the team doesn’t have enough uniforms. Montezuma-Cortez was forced to borrow uniforms from the high school last year just so that each student could participate at meets. In some cases, team members were even wearing their own clothes because of the lack of uniforms. Hoping to ensure students who want to can participate, a district parent and the team’s coach came up with the idea to buy new uniforms. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of 60 uniforms and warmups, helping the middle school’s track program continue to grow.
