New Life Skills Space Strengthens Therapy for Monte Vista Youth

  • Local Champion: The Childrens Specialty Clinic of the San Luis Valley INC
  • Date Funded: December 9, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $4,000

Many neurodiverse youth in Monte Vista lack access to essential therapeutic services that support school readiness and the development of life skills critical for long-term well-being.

After successfully establishing an outdoor therapy space in 2023, staff at the Children’s Specialty Clinic recognized the need for an indoor area where children could learn and practice daily living skills through hands-on experiences and reached out to LOR for support.

LOR’s funding will help purchase a refrigerator, seating, and small kitchen appliances that therapists can use to teach meal preparation, sensory-friendly routines, and independent task practice. This new equipment will complete a major clinic remodel, creating a functional space where young children—particularly those impacted by trauma, developmental challenges, or autism—can build confidence and independence through real-world skill development that prepares them for school and daily life.
