New Lander Radio Club Creates Community Resource for Emergency Preparedness

  • Local Champion: Lander local
  • Date Funded: March 19, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $21,635

In Lander, radio enthusiasts and emergency responders have been operating without coordination, reliable equipment, or ongoing training—a gap that could prove critical during disasters or remote emergencies. After last summer’s fire brought emergency preparedness to the forefront, one local radio enthusiast and engineer had an idea to launch a club that would bring together amateur radio operators and emergency services. LOR’s funding helped purchase essential equipment including educational tools, reliable repeaters, and technical supplies needed to establish proper radio infrastructure in Lander. This newly established club will offer regular licensing classes, maintain quality radio repeaters with downtown coverage, and create crucial collaboration between various emergency responders—ensuring that when emergencies strike, Lander has the communication network and trained operators needed for an effective response.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
