New Equipment Helps Lander Softball Players Grow Their Skills

  • Local Champion: Lander Girls Fastpitch Softball
  • Date Funded: February 16, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $16,885

Fast pitch softball is a growing sport around the state of Wyoming, with a few municipalities creating high school teams and others, like Lander Valley High School, working toward this. Many Lander girls are interested in softball and join the volunteer-run fastpitch Lander Girls Softball League. The trouble is that the lack of quality equipment presents an obstacle to improving skills beyond a certain point, so many players to drop out of the program in middle school because they don’t feel like they are getting enough out of it. Volunteer coaches believe the solution is simply acquiring better equipment (like batting cages and a pitching machine), but that’s a challenge because league fees are intentionally kept low ($100 per season) to ensure anyone who wants to participate, can. LOR’s support will help with the purchase of a batting cage, pitching machine, and other equipment that helps the girls practice their hitting skills while others use the field to practice other skills—hopefully raising the bar for everyone.
