Music to the Ears: New Equipment and Outreach Aid Cortez’s Four Corners Community Band

  • Local Champion: Four Corners Community Band
  • Date Funded: February 6, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $4,720

For years, the Four Corners Community Band has brought together musicians of all ages and skills to play free concerts for southwest Colorado’s music lovers. However, the majority of those who attend the band’s 11 annual concerts are family members and friends. The all-volunteer nonprofit has lacked the budget for marketing and community outreach, while the band’s percussion instruments have proved nearly impossible to move to new venues, preventing the group from expanding and playing additional concerts. One band member reached out to LOR with the idea to purchase new equipment and create an awareness campaign to help the group grow. LOR’s funding will support the band’s purchase of an electronic percussion pad and amplifier, and will help the group contract for digital and print marketing. With the boost, the group will be able to share more of its music in Cortez and across southwest Colorado.
