Multigenerational Storytelling Workshops Bridge Generations and Grow Community in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Speech Hearing and Balance Institute
  • Date Funded: September 23, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,500

In Cortez, opportunities for meaningful connections between generations are limited, leaving both youth and seniors feeling disconnected from the broader Cortez community and each other. To bridge this gap, a local theater director and performer partnered with Southwest Open School and the Montezuma County Senior Center to create an intergenerational storytelling project. Hoping to capture and preserve these vital community connections, she reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help the Speech Hearing and Balance Institute hire a director and videographer to launch storytelling workshops that bring together Cortez high school students and seniors, culminating in recorded interviews and theatrical performances featuring their true-life stories.
