Movable Outdoor Kennels Keep Life Fresh for Libby’s Shelter Animals

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Health Department
  • Date Funded: September 30, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,500

Lincoln County’s animal shelter has helped more than 9,300 pets since 2013, aiding Libby’s four-legged residents and local pet owners. But when the nonprofit that provided volunteer support for the shelter ended its work with the county, the shelter was thrown into a crisis without enough people to walk the dogs, clean kennels, and run daily operations. Making matters worse, the shelter has seen record numbers of animals coming through its doors, with average stays for homeless pets increasing from seven to 19 days. One Lincoln County Health Department staff member recognized the need for an urgent solution, so he reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Lincoln County purchase and install eight movable outdoor kennel runs, so that the shelter’s residents can safely spend time outside and stay healthy with fewer volunteers.
