Monte Vista Residents Help Local Kids Combat Sensory Overload

  • Local Champion: Early Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley
  • Date Funded: May 1, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $4,177

Especially in the wake of the pandemic, there has been a push in Monte Vista ensure all residents are prioritizing their overall health and wellness. But some people do not have the tools that can help them combat issues like sensory overload and sensitivity—which can take a toll on a person’s mental and physical health. To address this problem, a member of the Early Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley brought forward an idea to create and distribute baskets that will help those in need—particularly children—cope with daily stresses. With LOR’s help, the organization was able to purchase compression vests, fidget tools, fleece blankets, and other items that are known to help combat sensory overload.
