Lane Lines Support Competitive Swimming Events in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Cortez Water Dragons
  • Date Funded: July 11, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $5,274

Swimming is popular among Cortez kids and adults, but the decade-old lane lines at the city’s outdoor pool are deteriorating, threatening the community’s ability to host competitive swim meets that bring economic benefits to local businesses. After Cortez was selected to host the Colorado state swim meet in August, one board member of the Cortez Water Dragons, the local swimming club, reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the Cortez Water Dragons purchase new lane lines to replace the failing equipment, showing Cortez can successfully host local, regional, and state tournaments while also supporting the training of more than 80 local swimmers.
