Ground-Penetrating Radar Helps Libby Homeowners Maintain Safe Septic Systems

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Health Department
  • Date Funded: June 3, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $27,385

Many Lincoln County homeowners cannot locate their buried septic leach fields without expensive services unavailable within the county, preventing them from repairing failing systems that threaten local groundwater and drinking water. Following this year’s flooding, which disturbed septic infrastructure and created a backlog of unresolved repair cases, the problem is especially acute. Lincoln County Health Department staff wanted to make leach field location services easy and affordable for residents, so they reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the Lincoln County Health Department purchase a ground-penetrating radar device and software to locate buried septic systems for county residents at low or no cost. The equipment will enable homeowners to obtain permits, complete required repairs, and protect the drinking water that rural Libby residents depend on.
