A Sled Library Spreads Winter Cheer to Libby Kids

  • Local Champion: Libby Public Schools
  • Date Funded: January 30, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $500

When the snow is falling, the slopes are calling. In Libby, that means not just skiing, but sledding. Every year kids routinely visit Ski Dale, the local sledding hill, for some powdery fun. But each year a number of kids are also left out because they don’t own sleds or can’t find one to use. In some cases, kids have even turned to using plastic bags as sleds. Freshmen at Libby Middle High School wanted to make sledding something every Libby child could enjoy. They decided to build a “sled library” but need help kick-starting the project, so they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of sleds, wood, paint, and other supplies for the public lending box. Once completed, the students will monitor and replenish the library with additional sleds, giving every Libby child the chance for some wintry cheer.
