Free Workshops Celebrate BIPOC Culture in Taos’ Historic District

  • Local Champion: Taos Coalition of Color
  • Date Funded: March 26, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,341

Taos has a diverse population, yet residents of color have lacked opportunities to engage in inclusive arts and entrepreneurship programs, a problem members of the Taos Coalition of Color set out to solve. When road construction began reducing economic activity in Taos’ historic district, members of Taos Coalition of Color and a local business owner saw an opportunity. Their idea? Create a series of culturally diverse workshops and events downtown. LOR’s funding helped Taos Coalition of Color purchase equipment, pay artist stipends, and cover promotional costs for workshops on breathing techniques, creative writing, movement classes, and African folklore, bringing new foot traffic to local businesses while celebrating the contributions of Taos’ BIPOC community.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
