Food Program Fuels Indoor Track Athletes While Building Parent Support

  • Local Champion: Lander locals
  • Date Funded: January 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $1,800

In Lander, the high school’s indoor track program has grown from 20 to 35 athletes in just one year, creating a new winter sports option beyond wrestling and basketball. However, as participation has surged, parent volunteer support hasn’t kept pace, leaving hungry athletes without meals during day-long and multi-day meets. After seeing this need, one community volunteer had an idea to bring parents together through a food program for the team. LOR’s funding helped purchase supplies for meals and snacks at the season’s nine remaining meets, creating opportunities for parents to connect and organize without the financial burden of providing food. This approach not only ensures athletes can focus on performance rather than hunger but also helps build a sustainable parent support network for this rapidly growing program.

This project is fiscally sponsored by the Lander Community Foundation.
