Expanded Access to Equine Program Builds Confidence in Monte Vista Youth

  • Local Champion: Lucky Shoe Ranch
  • Date Funded: June 30, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $8,285

Many children and families in Monte Vista face financial barriers that limit access to outdoor recreation, preventing youth from participating in activities that foster confidence, physical activity, emotional well-being, and meaningful connections with nature. When the founder of the Lucky Shoe Horse Riding Club—a nonprofit based in Monte Vista—recognized this need through her work with participants, she reached out to LOR for support. With funding from LOR, the Lucky Shoe Horse Riding Club will provide 12 scholarships and 30 gas vouchers to reduce financial and transportation barriers for local youth and families. Funding will also be used to purchase helmets, halters, training sticks, cones, ring toss equipment, tie-downs, grooming kits, and boot bells to support safe, hands-on equine experiences. The program offers more than horseback riding. It helps participants build confidence, leadership, and responsibility while fostering meaningful connections with the outdoors and supporting their physical and emotional well-being. By expanding access to equine-assisted learning, more Monte Vista youth will gain valuable life skills, strengthen their leadership, and experience the lasting benefits of outdoor recreation, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
