Educational Seminars and Garden Signs Help Cortez Residents Conserve Water

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Extension Office
  • Date Funded: March 13, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $1,775

Many Cortez residents want to beautify their homes and yards but struggle to select plants that can conserve water while thriving in Southwest Colorado’s harsh, arid environment. One local master gardener saw an opportunity to share water-wise gardening knowledge, so she reached out to LOR with her idea. LOR’s funding will help Montezuma County CSU Extension host educational seminars on water-wise landscaping practices and purchase signs to identify 35 drought-tolerant plants at the Cortez Public Library’s garden. The initiative will aid the city of Cortez’s water conservation efforts while also giving residents practical knowledge to create beautiful gardens adapted to the local environment.
