Digital Signage at Mesa Elementary Makes Cortez Students Safer

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: September 19, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $26,409

Students at Mesa Elementary in Cortez have been in increasing danger of being hit by drivers who do not adhere to the school-zone speed limit on thoroughfare near the building. The principal of the school has long hoped to add a digital sign outside the school to increase visibility and communication between drivers and the school, encouraging them to slow down as they approach the school zone. With support from the LOR Foundation, Mesa Elementary was able to secure bids and order a digital sign, which it will be able to install in the winter—creating a more welcoming and safe environment for families.
