Creative Art Workshops Open Opportunities for Cortez Youth

  • Local Champion: Piñon Project
  • Date Funded: December 15, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $2,115

Art is often an important outlet and mode of expression for young people, especially those who struggle in more formal settings like school. In Cortez, pursuing the creative arts can be difficult. Few young people have the resources or the mentorship to transform their talents and raise community awareness about their artwork. A staff member at the Piñon Project, a local nonprofit, came up with a solution: create artist-led workshops and classes for Cortez’s budding artists. She reached out to the LOR Foundation for assistance getting the project off the ground. LOR’s funding will help Piñon Project purchase art supplies, compensate local artists, and offer awards to participants. Over the course of four workshops, Cortez’s young artists will have the opportunity to refine their skills with encouragement. To champion their work, they will hold an open exhibition so community members can marvel at their talents.
