Community Sessions Help Taos County Identify Cultural Treasures

  • Local Champion: Taos County
  • Date Funded: June 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Amid new growth and development, many important cultural sites in Taos County are at risk of being harmed or lost, a problem county staff set out to solve by launching an initiative to identify and protect local “cultural assets.” As a part of the initiative, Taos County staff recognized the need for meaningful community participation to identify and share cultural sites. So, they decided to host a series of community listening sessions. LOR’s funding helped Taos County secure venues, purchase materials, and host several community sessions where residents could share the places they value. Their input will help Taos County create a map that can guide future economic development, addressing issues like affordable housing while preserving the county’s rich heritage.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
