Community Campaign Improves Carbon Monoxide Safety in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: A Monte Vista Local
  • Date Funded: March 30, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,933

Many Monte Vista residents are unaware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning—including how it occurs, how to detect it, and how quickly it can become fatal—placing families at preventable risk of serious injury or death. After losing her husband in a tragic carbon monoxide poisoning accident, one Monte Vista resident sought to turn her loss into purpose by raising awareness and preventing similar tragedies in her community.

LOR’s funding supported the purchase of 270 portable carbon monoxide detectors, along with educational materials, event supplies, and refreshments to launch a community awareness campaign through local events during the summer and fall. The initiative will distribute free detectors for use in homes and vehicles while educating residents about carbon monoxide risks, warning signs, and simple prevention steps that can save lives.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Optimystics Citizens Action Network.
