Community Bingo Funds Cortez Nonprofits

  • Local Champion: Bridge Emergency Shelter
  • Date Funded: June 11, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,400

Financial health is usually one of the biggest challenges for Cortez nonprofits. Local groups are constantly looking for ways to raise funds and diversify their revenue streams so they can keep their community programs running. The executive director of Bridge Emergency Shelter wanted to help the shelter and other Cortez nonprofits create a long-term fundraising venture. Her idea? Bingo. She became a certified games manager and the group obtained a license to run bingo events, but the plan hit a snag with startup costs; the cost to purchase bingo equipment was the same as the cost of running the overnight shelter for a month. In need of support, she reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help Bridge Emergency Shelter purchase a video bingo system, bingo cards, and all the equipment the group needs to run games. Beginning in July, twice-monthly bingo games will raise money for local nonprofits dedicated to helping Cortez.
