An Emergency Backup Keeps the Libby Food Pantry Up and Running

  • Local Champion: Libby Food Pantry
  • Date Funded: April 15, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $27,538

The Libby Food Pantry stands out as a beacon for local families struggling with food insecurity. In 2023, the nonprofit served more than 3,000 households, providing roughly 138,000 pounds of food to local Libby families. Yet despite its essential mission, the work of the Libby Food Pantry remains at risk. Last year the group lost an entire freezer of fish and poultry after a breaker blew and the group’s refrigeration system went out. Volunteers quickly realized that a broader power outage could make it impossible to feed the residents who look to the food bank for help, especially if the outage were to happen during the summer months. Staff with the Libby Food Pantry wanted to create a backup system, so they reached out to the LOR Foundation for help. LOR’s funding will support the group’s purchase of a backup generator and exhaust fan system—as well as their installation by local electricians—keeping the Libby Food Pantry up and running no matter the circumstances.
