Free Grief Support Strengthens Community Wellness in Taos

  • Local Champion: Golden Willow Retreat, Inc
  • Date Funded: March 23, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $16,300

Taos residents experiencing death, divorce, estrangement, and other significant losses often lack consistent access to affordable, structured grief support. Without locally available group-based care, individuals facing loss can experience isolation, emotional distress, and difficulty with daily functioning, while unresolved grief can contribute to depression, anxiety, and long-term health impacts.

After hearing repeated requests from community members, Golden Willow Retreat developed a solution to address this gap in local behavioral health resources: free, professionally facilitated weekly grief support groups offered both in person in Taos and online to reach residents across the county.

With LOR’s support, Golden Willow Retreat will contract trained grief facilitators to lead weekly support group sessions, rent space for in-person meetings, and maintain a Zoom subscription for virtual participation. Outreach through community partners and local providers will strengthen referrals, while pre- and post-group evaluations will track outcomes—ultimately helping to reduce isolation, strengthen coping skills, and promote emotional resilience across the Taos community.
