An Emergency Assistance Fund Keeps Cortez Families Housed

  • Local Champion: Housing Authority of Montezuma County
  • Date Funded: October 28, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $25,000

Many Cortez residents struggle to remain in their homes when unexpected medical or financial crises impact their budgets, often resulting in evictions. While some low-income residents can qualify for assistance, others who are just above the poverty line cannot, a problem staff with the Housing Authority of Montezuma County decided to solve. LOR’s funding will help the Housing Authority of Montezuma County provide temporary financial assistance to 20 to 30 households who don’t qualify for other public aid programs but need a small amount of help to stay in their homes during a crisis. The program will allow families to remain housed until they can get back on their feet, avoiding the expense and trauma of displacement for both residents and landlords.
