An Annual Recognition Event Helps Cortez Celebrate Its Community Champions

  • Local Champion: Montezuma Leadership Network
  • Date Funded: July 24, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $4,650

Many Cortez residents devote countless hours to supporting local nonprofits and community organizations, but their contributions often go unrecognized until they’ve passed away. Over dinner, two community volunteers came up with an idea to celebrate the service of dedicated locals while they could appreciate the recognition. LOR’s funding helped the Montezuma Leadership Network rent a venue and equipment and provide the catering and decorations to launch an annual volunteer celebration event at the Cortez Cultural Center. The inaugural event will celebrate six honorees with memory books and special recognition, establishing a new tradition honoring those who have made significant contributions to the community.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
