Acequia Repairs Restore Water Access for Parciantes Across Questa

  • Local Champion: Questa Citizens Ditch Association
  • Date Funded: June 25, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $7,680

In Questa, severe rainstorms in October 2025 caused significant erosion and blockages throughout the community’s acequia ditch system. This left 230 parciantes without reliable irrigation access and disrupted agricultural production, land stewardship, and the traditional water-sharing practices that have sustained local farms and ranches for generations. After the Questa Citizens Ditch Association restored the Middle and Molino Ditches using substantial volunteer labor and privately owned equipment, repair costs for the remaining North and South Ditches exceeded what the organization could cover alone. The ditch association manager developed a solution. LOR’s funding helped the Questa Citizens Ditch Association purchase head gates, culverts, and cement, and to hire heavy equipment operators and installers to restore both the North Ditch—serving approximately 170 parciantes—and the South Ditch—serving approximately 60 parciantes. These repairs restored reliable water delivery, strengthened essential agricultural infrastructure, and supported the long-term viability of family farms and ranches across the Questa area.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Localogy.
