A New Handwriting Curriculum Brings All Cortez Preschool Students Up to Speed

  • Local Champion: Trinity Lutheran Preschool Inc.
  • Date Funded: September 27, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $1,700

Not all Cortez preschoolers start kindergarten with the same handwriting preparation, creating an early academic gap that depends largely on which preschool they attend. While some local preschools already use the handwriting curriculum adopted by the Montezuma-Cortez School District, others like Trinity Lutheran Preschool and Por Dia Preschool and Learning Center don’t. Hoping to close the gap, one staff member with Trinity Lutheran reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help Trinity Lutheran and Por Dia purchase the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, including 40 workbooks, teacher’s guides, and other learning supplies, ensuring all Cortez preschoolers are prepared for kindergarten.
