A New Club Helps Cortez Kids Hit the Slopes

  • Local Champion: School Community Youth Collaborative
  • Date Funded: November 28, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $10,072

It can be difficult for students to access recreational opportunities when the weather turns cold in Cortez, in part because skiing and snowboarding is cost-prohibitive. So many kids instead spend most of the winter season indoors. With this in mind, a Montezuma-Cortez High School counselor had an idea for getting kids outside: a cost-free ski and snowboard club that takes kids to nearby ski areas and helps them connect with nature. The club will provide lift tickets, gear rentals, lunch, and transportation to and from ski areas. LOR support helped purchase lift tickets and gear rentals for students on three different trips throughout the winter.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation
