A Horseback Riding Program Fosters Connections for Monte Vista Youth

A growing body of research suggests that equine therapy can improve mental health, support those struggling with substance use, and help at-risk youth. Despite the benefits, Monte Vista has few options for youth to participate in the therapy, which aims to build healing connections between people and horses. After being approached by parents and other organizations, the founder of Lucky Shoe Horse Riding Club, a Monte Vista nonprofit, decided to create a free horseback program for local youth in foster care. In need of a hand, she reached out to LOR for support launching the program. LOR’s funding will help Lucky Shoe Horse Riding Club cover horse and facility rental fees, compensate two riding instructors, and purchase helmets and other teaching supplies. The free program will be available for Monte Vista youth from 5 to 18 years old, helping children in foster care and adopted youth navigate challenges, build social skills, and come away stronger versions of themselves.
