A Book Preserves the History of Libby Dam’s Construction

  • Local Champion: Libby Dam Cooperative Association, Inc.
  • Date Funded: January 28, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,130

First-hand accounts of the construction of Libby Dam represent an important piece of local history, but the stories of those who built the dam are fading and with them Libby’s collective history. More than two decades ago, a manuscript was written to document the lost stories of the engineers and construction workers, but it was never published. The problem has only become more pressing as builders have passed away. One staff member at Libby Dam want to take the manuscript and create a book ahead of the dam’s 50th anniversary. In need of support, she reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help cover the publishing and printing of 1,000 copies of the new book, ensuring the personal stories of those who shaped Libby will be preserved and shared with future generations.
