Taos Swim Club Makes Learning to Swim—and Competitive Swimming—Affordable for All

  • Local Champion: Taos Swim Club
  • Date Funded: April 25, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $9,994

In the spring of 2022 more than 100 families were on Taos Swim Club’s wait list. The club is Taos County’s only learn-to-swim program and—rather uniquely—accepts Medicaid, which encourages participation from low-income families. In order to accommodate the families on the wait list, the club needed to hire and train four more instructors and purchase new and more equipment, so staff reached out to LOR for help. LOR’s funding not only helped pay for four new, trained instructors and the equipment, but it also provided Taos Swim Club with the ability to reduce meet costs—ensuring youth participation in swimming includes families of all income levels.
