Water Data Helps Cortez Farmers Amidst Drought

  • Local Champion: Colorado State University Foundation
  • Date Funded: December 9, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $28,895

Land managers, farmers, and ranchers in and around Cortez lack access to water data that would help them implement better rangeland practices. However, one farm in the area has been collecting data over many years, but hasn’t had the ability to analyze it and share it with locals. To address this issue, a member of the Montezuma County Colorado State University Extension contacted LOR with a potential solution: hire subject matter experts (in this case, graduate students) to analyze and distribute six years of water data to local farms to help them better adjust to drought conditions. LOR’s funding will help with the cost of the subject matter expert and lab services, meeting supplies, marketing, and some travel costs.
