VR Expands Pathways to Medical Careers for Monte Vista Students

  • Local Champion: The Attainment Network
  • Date Funded: November 25, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $21,998

Thanks to a recently launched San Luis Valley Career-Connected Pathways Partnership initiative (led by The Attainment Network), Monte Vista High School students can now explore and pursue careers as Certified Nursing Assistants or Medical Assistants during the traditional school day and at no additional cost to their families.

This innovative certification program is designed to address the critical shortage of healthcare employees in the Valley and close the opportunity gap for local youth who are interested in working in the medical field. However, limited access to technological resources restricted the number of students who could participate in the training. So, an Attainment Network employee reached out to the LOR Foundation for help to purchase additional VR headsets.

LOR’s funding will cover the cost of two new headsets and software, which will help prepare learners for real-life patient encounters by bridging the gap between the classroom and healthcare environments.
