Trauma-Informed Support Group Provides Relief To Working Families in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: Two Monte Vista Locals
  • Date Funded: December 16, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,022

Qualifying families in Monte Vista have access to the 10-week in-person ‘Seedlings’ program through the Early Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley. But many participants—and members of the broader community—have expressed their need for ongoing support to address challenges including but not limited to, mental health, social connection, economic hardship, and substance misuse. So, two local early childhood mental health professionals reached out with an idea: launch a free, trauma-informed support group for caregivers to offer relief and local resources to working families.

LOR’s support helped purchase supplies for facilitated activities, including yoga mats, a projector, journals, arts and crafts supplies, and games. It also covered the cost of food, childcare, and gas for the first year of group sessions, serving up to 30 adults and 20 children each month.

This project is fiscally sponsored by the San Luis Valley Development Resources Group.
