Transport Van Provides Lifeline for Stray Animals in Taos

  • Local Champion: Four Corners Animal League
  • Date Funded: October 14, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $7,869

Taos County is home to dedicated rescue groups working hard to care for stray and abandoned animals. However, local shelter options remain limited, and community animal advocates are actively seeking reliable ways to connect animals with safe placements at humane shelters across the Southwest.

To address this need, the President of Four Corners Animal League—the only organization in Taos County with an active interstate transport license—reached out to LOR with a solution: purchase a dedicated transport van to serve all local rescue groups and safely relocate animals to partner shelters with available space.

With support from LOR, Four Corners Animal League will finalize the purchase of an all-wheel-drive transport van, including licensing, registration, and snow tires for safe winter travel—closing the remaining funding gap after significant support from community fundraisers and private donations.

The van will enable bi-monthly transfers of approximately 40 animals to partner humane societies across the Southwest, providing a shared resource for all Taos rescue groups and helping to prevent overcrowding while improving adoption outcomes.
