Trade Skills Get a Boost at Sargent High School

  • Local Champion: Sargent School District
  • Date Funded: December 1, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $16,927

College isn’t for everyone and career and technical education is critical for ensuring that students have the training and skills they need to thrive. Like many rural communities, students at Sargent High School don’t have the expensive equipment they need to learn essential trade skills like wood working and metal fabrication. Sargent’s agriculture teacher wanted to create more hands-on opportunities for students, so she reached out to the LOR Foundation with an idea to purchase new supplies. LOR’s funding will help the school acquire a table saw, lathe, socket wrench set, and other tools to expand trade training and strengthen job preparation for the roughly 46 seniors who join shop class. The equipment will also support agricultural education as shop students sell their projects to fundraise for Sargent’s FFA program.
