Titles To Go: A Lander School Gives Students a New Book Each Month

  • Local Champion: Fremont County School District #1
  • Date Funded: August 8, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $9,000

Studies have shown that kids who are surrounded by books read more often at home and develop positive learning outcomes. Unfortunately, about half of the elementary school students in Lander don’t have books in their homes, and if they do, they’re not necessarily the books the students would choose. So teachers at Gannett Peak Elementary began looking for solutions and brought an idea to the LOR Foundation: Purchase one book every month—each of a student’s choosing—for every K-3 student in Lander to take home. With LOR’s support, every student will bring home nine books this year and the school will host two book drives, meaning nearly 5,000 books will end up in the homes of Lander students.
