Sliding in Safely: New Infields Will Improve Play at Weiser Memorial Park

  • Local Champion: City of Weiser
  • Date Funded: November 30, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,600

Athletes and residents of Weiser have long relied on the three baseball and softball fields at Memorial Park for competition and fun. The city’s recreation department uses the field for its programs, as do the local high school, middle school, and anyone wants to play America’s great pastime. However, slide into a base and you risk life and limb on the hard-packed clay. City staff wanted to make the infields safer for players of all ages ahead of spring, so they reached out to LOR about purchasing field conditioner, which softens the dirt by managing moisture and improving drainage. LOR’s funding helped to purchase 100 tons of conditioner that the city will work into the fields in preparation for the 2024 season. The new playing surface will help the make scraped knees and choppy grounders a thing of the past. With the recreation department’s routine maintenance, Weiser players will see the benefits far into the future.
