Restrooms Give Cortez Hikers Relief on the Trail

  • Local Champion: Mancos Trails Group
  • Date Funded: July 22, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $6,160

A number of Montezuma County’s popular trailheads lack restroom facilities, creating barriers for locals who want to enjoy hiking, biking, and horseback riding on public lands. After funding for portable restrooms at two heavily-used trailheads was eliminated, volunteers with the Mancos Trails Group decided to step in to maintain visitor access. LOR’s funding helped the Mancos Trails Group rent portable restrooms for the Chicken Creek and Aqueduct trailheads. In 2026, the group will upgrade the restrooms to accessible units, ensuring the popular outdoor recreation areas are welcoming for visitors of all abilities.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Mancos Valley Resources.
