Restored Bikes Give Lander Youth Reliable Transportation to School and Activities

  • Local Champion: Lander locals
  • Date Funded: January 21, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,256

In Lander, young people sometimes struggle to get to school or extracurricular activities on time because parents’ work schedules limit transportation options and their families can’t afford reliable bicycles that could help them get their on their own. After long-time volunteers who quietly help the community behind the scenes were gifted 26 abandoned bikes from an apartment complex, they had an idea to restore them and work with school officials and trusted community partners to distribute them to students who truly need transportation. The volunteers also wanted to provide helmets for safety and locks to prevent theft. LOR’s funding helped cover parts, labor, helmets, locks, and pickup and delivery costs, transforming abandoned bikes into reliable transportation for Lander youth.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Lander Community Foundation.
