Renovated Taos Rodeo Grounds Enhance Emergency Shelter and Community Space

  • Local Champion: Taos County Sheriffs Posse
  • Date Funded: August 7, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,832

The Taos rodeo grounds serve as a vital space for both festive community gatherings and the delivery of emergency relief in times of crisis—but the facility lacks basic amenities like functional restrooms and climate control. During recent wildfires, the rodeo grounds became an impromptu evacuation site for displaced farm animals and their rescuers, underscoring the urgent need for upgrades.

To address this challenge, members of the Taos County Sheriff’s Posse proposed a renovation of the existing building to improve its functionality as a fully equipped community and emergency hub. With support from LOR, the Taos County Sheriff’s Posse will purchase materials to renovate two restrooms, install a mini-split system for temperature control, and provide tables and chairs for public use. These upgrades will enhance the site’s ability to support residents during community events and future disaster responses.
