Playground Equipment Strengthens Outdoor Opportunities for Taos Pueblo Youth

  • Local Champion: Oo-Oo-Nah Art and Cultural Center
  • Date Funded: November 21, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $4,519

Many local children participate in free arts and cultural programs at the Oo-Oo-Nah Art and Cultural Center in Taos Pueblo, but the center lacks outdoor play equipment. Without a safe, engaging area for active recreation, youth have limited opportunities for movement and social connection during programming, especially during the center’s popular summer camp, which serves 18–20 children each year.

To address this gap, an Oo-Oo-Nah team member proposed a simple, effective solution: purchase playground equipment to create a permanent outdoor recreation space for children in the center’s year-round programs.

With LOR’s support, the center will purchase a swing set with a slide, along with rubber mulch and border materials, to establish a safe outdoor play area. Board members and volunteers will assist with installation, creating a durable recreation space that complements Oo-Oo-Nah’s free arts, crafts, and cultural education programs.

The new equipment will serve children from both Taos Pueblo and the broader Taos community, and it will also benefit families who use the facility for gatherings and events—strengthening youth engagement and community connection at this trusted cultural hub.
