Parish Upgrades Create Community Gathering Space in Taos

A building at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish has remained underutilized for years, even as organizations across Taos continue to seek welcoming spaces to meet, collaborate, and serve residents. When a community member and participant in the Enchanted Circle Interfaith Gathering saw an opportunity to activate the space as a community asset, they reached out to LOR with an idea: transform it into a meeting place for nonprofit organizations, public agencies, recovery groups, and residents—regardless of faith affiliation. With the proposed upgrades, the building will also be prepared to serve as a warming center, community meal site, or overflow shelter during emergencies. LOR funding will help the parish equip the meeting room and resource library with technology, shelving, and window coverings; upgrade the kitchen with a commercial gas range, vent hood, and refrigerator/freezer; and support interior painting and a Zoom subscription. Together, these upgrades will create an affordable, welcoming space where people can share knowledge, coordinate services, and work together to meet the evolving needs of the Taos community.
