New Van Ensures Reliable, Affordable Transportation for Lander Residents

  • Local Champion: Lander Senior Citizens Center
  • Date Funded: June 26, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $30,000

In Lander, the Senior Center‘s transportation service provides over 41,000 rides per year to residents of all ages—from high school students getting to work to seniors attending medical appointments—but its wheelchair-accessible van, which cost just $2 per ride, is now failing. The van has 127,000 miles and multiple system failures including broken heating, air conditioning, and electrical components. Replacement parts can’t be found because the manufacturer went out of business. When the Senior Center’s executive director realized this essential community lifeline was about to be lost, she reached out to LOR for help purchasing a new wheelchair-accessible van with a ramp. This replacement ensures that Lander’s most vulnerable residents—including those who depend on meal delivery and transportation to jobs, medical appointments, and social activities—continue to have access to safe, affordable transportation throughout the community.
