New Supplies Help Taos Youth With Disabilities Grow in the Classroom

  • Local Champion: A Taos resident
  • Date Funded: September 22, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $1,500

Taos middle and high school students with mental and physical limitations are limited in course offerings, particularly because the schools lack specific curriculums geared toward these students. A local teacher, though, wanted to introduce a new kind of lesson plan at the high school but lacked the necessary supplies to do so. Funding from the LOR Foundation is being used to purchase equipment—primarily science and cooking supplies—so that the high school can implement a new science and life-skills program this school year. Students will learn the scientific method, new science-related vocabulary, and will learn to conduct experiments and communicate their findings. They will also practice their culinary skills based on cultural traditions in the region.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Taos MainStreet.
