First-Time Moms Come Together to Support Each Other in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Health Department
  • Date Funded: October 11, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $5,800

New mothers in Cortez have limited opportunities to connect with other moms and support each other in the adventure of motherhood. In particular, it can be isolating for moms when they only interact with their baby and family members. With this problem in mind, a Cortez local reached out to the LOR Foundation with an idea: Create a first-time mothers support group that will create meaningful and lasting connections for young families in the community. LOR’s support helped the group bring in a subject matter expert to talk to moms (topics include self-care, mental health, trauma-informed care, and others) as well as food and other resources for each gathering.
