Monte Vista’s Chamber of Commerce Leads Local Water Conservation by Example

  • Local Champion: City of Monte Vista
  • Date Funded: May 20, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $29,967

The Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce is one of the most visited places in Monte Vista; residents use the Chamber’s building for community meetings and events while it also serves as the local information center for visitors. But the long-term maintenance of the Chamber’s building has been a looming question. Its leaky sprinkler system and many nonnative plants and grasses waste significant water, costing considerable money and time. Staff with the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce wanted to do their part for local water conservation. They had the idea to hire a landscaper and install an automated sprinkler system but needed support, so they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Monte Vista (which owns the building) purchase and install a new sprinkler system and an array of native plants, reducing the building’s water use while creating an accessible outdoor space for residents.
